How to Invite Your Landlord on RentTrust (and What Happens If They Don't Verify)
When you add a rental on RentTrust, you tell us about a property you live in (or lived in) and who your landlord is. We then send your landlord a verification invite by email or text so they can confirm the rental relationship is real.
How to send the invite
- Go to Add Rental on your tenant dashboard.
- Enter the property address and your lease dates.
- Add your landlord's email or phone number as the "counterparty contact."
- Submit — RentTrust creates the rental record and sends the invite automatically.
You can see the invite status on your Rentals tab. It shows as pending until your landlord responds.
What happens if my landlord doesn't verify?
Your rental history is still saved on your account — it just stays unverified until the other side confirms. Here's what that means:
- You can still be reviewed and review your landlord. Verification is not required to participate in reviews.
- The relationship shows an "unverified" badge instead of a verified one. Verified relationships carry more weight with future landlords.
- You can send reminders. RentTrust can send polite reminder emails to nudge an unresponsive landlord.
- After the invite expires, you can re-send it or mark the rental using evidence (like a lease or rent receipts) if two-party verification isn't possible.
If your landlord never responds, the rental still appears on your timeline — it just won't carry the "verified" trust signal. You can always come back and complete verification later if they join RentTrust.
Tips
- Double-check the email or phone number before sending — typos are the #1 reason invites go unanswered.
- If your landlord isn't tech-savvy, let them know an email from RentTrust is coming so they don't mistake it for spam.
