How Reviews Work on RentTrust — for Tenants and Landlords
Reviews on RentTrust are how tenants and landlords build a public, verified track record. Both sides of a rental can leave a review, and the system is designed to be fair to everyone.
Who can review whom
- Tenants review landlords on maintenance speed, communication, and fairness.
- Landlords review tenants on property condition, rule adherence, and noise levels.
Each side gives a 1–5 star rating across a few categories, plus an optional written summary.
When can you review?
Reviews open up once a rental relationship is marked completed (the lease has ended). You'll see a "Write Review" prompt on your dashboard when a relationship becomes eligible. Landlords and tenants can also request a review from the other side.
The 14-day mutual reveal window
When you submit a review, it isn't published instantly. It enters a 14-day window:
- If the other party also submits their review within 14 days, both go public together. This prevents retaliation — neither side sees the other's review before writing their own.
- If only one side reviews, that review publishes after the window closes.
- You can also choose to delay a negative review until after you move out, so it doesn't affect an active tenancy.
Verification badges
Reviews attached to a verified rental relationship earn a verified badge. Reviews on unverified relationships are still visible but show as unverified. You can also choose to post anonymously.
Disputes
If a review contains false information, the reviewed party can file a dispute with evidence. RentTrust reviews disputes and may remove or uphold the review.
