At RentTrust, we are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with transparency. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

Data Collection

RentTrust collects tenant and landlord email addresses solely for the purpose of residency verification. We collect only the information necessary to:

• Verify rental relationships between tenants and landlords
• Send verification invitations and notifications
• Maintain accurate rental history records
• Enable communication regarding disputes or reviews

Privacy Protection

Your privacy is paramount to us. RentTrust will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third-party marketers or data brokers.

Name Anonymization

To protect user privacy on public profiles and reviews, tenant names are automatically anonymized to show only:

Full names are only visible to verified rental counterparties and are never displayed publicly.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Request corrections to your data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Opt out of non-essential communications

Account Deletion & Data Retention

You may close your RentTrust account at any time from your Profile Settings or by emailing support@renttrust.co. Account closure is permanent and irreversible.

When you close your account:

• Permanently deleted: Your name, email address, profile photo, bio, social links, phone number, and profile activity logs.
• Anonymized (content preserved, identity removed): Reviews you wrote — your name is detached and the review is marked anonymous. External landlord references you requested are similarly de-identified.
• Retained for platform integrity: Verified rental relationship records, audit log entries (with your email replaced by a tombstone identifier), and evidence file metadata. These records contain no personally identifiable information after deletion.
• Retained pending dispute resolution: If an active dispute exists on a review linked to your account at the time of deletion, associated evidence files are temporarily retained until the dispute is resolved, then purged.
• Not affected: Reviews written about you by other users remain on the platform, as they belong to the reviewer.

Your original email address is replaced with a system tombstone address so the account cannot be reactivated or re-authenticated. We retain the minimum data required for fraud prevention, legal compliance, and the integrity of third-party verifications that other users depend on.
