How to Claim an Existing Unclaimed Profile on RentTrust

RentTrust Team July 27, 2026 4 min read

Sometimes someone else has already started a rental relationship on RentTrust that names you — for example, a tenant added their rental and listed you as the landlord, or a landlord invited you as a tenant. If that relationship isn't linked to your account yet, it shows up as an unclaimed profile.

How to find unclaimed profiles tied to you

  1. Sign in to RentTrust with the email or phone number the other party used.
  2. RentTrust automatically scans for unclaimed profiles matching your contact info.
  3. If any are found, you'll see a prompt to review and claim them.

You can also search publicly for a profile and request to claim it.

What claiming does

  • Links the rental relationship to your real RentTrust account.
  • Lets you complete verification (if the other party is also on RentTrust).
  • Allows you to be reviewed and to leave reviews for that relationship.
  • Makes the profile publicly searchable (unless you opt out).

Opting out

If a profile exists that names you and you don't want to be on RentTrust, you can opt out instead of claiming. Opting out:

  • Keeps the profile visible by direct link but removes it from public search.
  • Prevents anyone from claiming or editing it.
  • Stops future auto-linking to new accounts.

Tips

  • Claim profiles with the same email or phone the other party used — that's how RentTrust matches you.
  • Once claimed, you control your profile settings and can share your verified rental history with future landlords.

This describes the RentTrust platform, not legal rights.
