How Rent Tracking Works on RentTrust

RentTrust Team July 27, 2026 4 min read

Rent tracking on RentTrust is a lightweight, optional tool that helps landlords keep a monthly record of each tenant's payment status. It is not a payment processor — no money moves through RentTrust. It's a trust-building log.

What gets tracked

For each active tenant, the landlord records a monthly status:

  • Paid — rent received in full.
  • Partial — only part of the rent was paid.
  • Late — paid, but after the due date.
  • Pending — not yet recorded or not yet paid.

Landlords can add the amount, the date paid, a payment-method note (check, Venmo, Zelle, etc.), and private notes for their own records.

Who sees what

  • Landlords see the full tracker for all their active tenants.
  • Tenants see their own payment history on their Rent tab.

Payment records are tied to a verified or active rental relationship.

Automatic monthly records

RentTrust can auto-generate a pending payment record for each active tenancy at the start of every month. The landlord then updates it to paid, partial, or late as the month progresses. This keeps the log current without manual setup.

What rent tracking is NOT

  • It does not collect or transfer rent money.
  • It does not connect to your bank.
  • It does not report to credit bureaus.

It's a simple, honest record that a tenant paid on time — which builds a verified payment history they can share with future landlords.

This describes the RentTrust platform, not legal rights.
